What would happen if a male took birth control pills?
Odd question I know, but my friend and I were talking about this the other day in the car and we couldn’t agree on an answer.
We were saying if a man took female birth control pills that he would gain female attributes, but he said it’d happen like over night and I think it’d take at least a few months if not longer to see any noticeable changes.
In short what would happen if a man took birth control pills every day for a month?

Birth control pills contain the hormone estrogen. All men have small amounts of estrogen in their bodies already, so taking one or two pills one time would have no noticable effect.
However, if a man were to continue taking them over a period of time, the elevated estrogen levels could produce larger breasts, decrease in body hair, plus the risk of blood clots, liver problems or prostate cancer.

There are a lot of non-hormonal birth control methods which would not cause any changes.
On the other hand, most hormonal birth controls contain mostly progesterone which is meant to balance out the effects of too much estrogen, and men and women both have progesterone already in their bodies. In men the effect of progesterone are this—
John R. Lee, M.D.* lists the following benefits of progesterone:
- Protects against prostate cancer
- Helps normalize blood sugar levels
- Helps use fat for energy
- Prevents water accumulation (acts as mild diuretic)
- Helps (normalizes) thyroid hormone function
- Stimulates new bone formation (osteoporosis protection and even reversal)
- Improves brain function, has antidepressant properties
- Improves skin problems including acne, seborrhea, rosacea, psoriasis
- Diminishes muscular aches and pains, has anti-inflammatory properties
- Improves sleep pattern
- Improves libido.
The few that do contain levels of estrogen are usually balanced out with progesterone. these would not cause men to have any femal attributes. If a man took ONLY estrogen he may experience the following
“Men who take estrogen may notice side effects including hair growth (on the head), vision changes, diabetes (type II), mood swings, changes in body temperature, changes in voice, breast-tissue growth, decreased interest in sex, skin irritation and acne, reduced body hair, change in gonadal size, stretch marks, weight gain, enlarged nipples, and a change in body odor. It is not advised to take doses of estrogen if you have a history of breast cancer in the family. “
