Other than a thumb in the bum?

can straight men get rectal exam?

Sunday, March 27th, 2011

I’m 21 years of age, i have sort of a pain down by my prostate/anal area, I’m 100 straight, I don’t know if I am just freakin out, or if there is something unusual such as a lump their, sort of seems like to me, but i don’t know? I take good care of my health, and get blood checks, and I’ve gone and had a sigmoid oscopy a while back, said I was fine, but doctor said, he saw a lesion, which he thought was a wart (hpv?not too sure from where, read somewhere it’s skin to skin contact ) asked if I do anything with males, I said hell no , he said it could be removed, not to worry, but not too sure how serious it is, but I’ve been paranoid that what if it leads to something bad? Should i go to the doctors, if so what doctor would specialize in this would it be a urologist? or just a general family doctor?.. Serious answers only, thanks.

I want my wife to go on birth control and get a pelvic exam but she refuses and gets very defensive.?

Sunday, March 13th, 2011

My wife and I have been married for a little over 2 years. She is my best friend and I can talk to her about anything. We have no kids and we would like to keep it that way for the time being. I want her to go on the pill again like she was in college. The pill afforded us spontaneity that condoms just can’t deliver. Now we are married and both have full time jobs and health insurance.
I suggested a few months ago that we go to the doctor and she get an exam (which she also refuses, more on this later), and I asked if she would go back on the pill. To say she got defensive and angry would be an understatement. After that I brought it up once more to more anger and defensiveness. Her two main arguments for not going are: 1) I don’t go to the urologist on a yearly basis and get my penis inspected and 2) she doesn’t want anybody poking around down there. As for the first reason I do a testicular exam about every month and I don’t need to get my prostate checked until I am 40. As for the second reason I know it’s embarrassing to have people you don’t know poking around down there but it’s over in a couple minutes and every man has been told to turn your head and cough. Also, keep in mind that its been almost 6 years since she has been to the gynecologist. I don’t want something happening right now that is preventable and not too late when she finally goes to the doctor.
My wife might have her periods roughly every 6-8 weeks and when she gets it she might get another period in 2 weeks. My wife has told me numerous times that she is worried about her period not being normal. I even made an appointment to see a doctor and she flipped out. I told her getting on the pill would regulate her periods and probably clear some of the breakouts she has from time to time and an exam would give her and me peace of mind.
My wifes best friend had a cyst the size of a baseball on her uterus that was discovered through a routine pelvic exam. She had surgery to remove it. I talked to my wife about this who immediately dismissed it as luck and said it wouldn’t happen to her. Are you freaking serious!!!! I also told her that my aunt had died from cervical cancer (I’m not lying about this) that had spread all over her body and could have been easily prevented with a 30 second pap smear. She dismissed it again as I don’t have cervical cancer. But how do you know? She replied with I just know and I know my body. To which I replied with but then why are your periods irregular? She said I was an asshole and walked out of the room.
At this point, I don’t even care about the birth control I just want her to get a pelvic exam and be healthy because I want to have kids with her someday. She won’t even get an exam for me.
We have health insurance so it won’t be expensive. Ladies please give my insight into my wife’s thinking. I’ve tried to reason with her logically but to no avail. I want her to be healthy and be around for a long time. Please help.

How can I get my doctor to be more thorough when giving me a prostate exam?

Monday, November 29th, 2010

He insists that there is nothing wrong, but I say that he can’t have checked things very well, since he spent less than five minutes doing it. I insist that he give it at least twenty minutes, and I’ve gone back three times, but each time it’s been the same quick feel, and I just am not getting my satisfaction; you know, that he’s done a good, thorough job.

How can I get through to him that he needs to take more time? My health is at stake here! Right now, whenever I call, his secretary says he’s always out of the office. I don’t believe her for one minute.

Is there a by-the-book procedure for a prostate exam?

Friday, September 24th, 2010

It’s taken a lot of liquor to muster up the courage to ask this, but I digress…

I began working for Starbucks about two years ago, and thanks to my continued exemplary employment, I was given access to their paid health benefits. While it did require me to switch to a doctor that was company-approved, I was eager to oblige for the drop in cost! (Hip, hip, hooray!)

I should preface this by saying that I am a man in my very early 50′s, and though I’m getting on in age, I’m still quite the stallion and every bit as full of vigor as a pup half my age. (Say hey, ladies!) Anyway, in the past few years, I’ve become quite familiar with a procedure that I believe most men dread: The prostate exam.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against the procedure itself, but a few of the particulars with the M.D. I visit have “rubbed me the wrong way,” so to speak. I was recently informed by a good friend of mine, Winston, that a prostate exam should be conducted once or twice a year, whichever your doctor deems appropriate. As I write this, the 9th prostate exam since last September that I’ve just returned from is still fresh in my memory. It would appear he’s milking (har) me for all I’m worth, and I don’t know if I should be concerned. In addition to what seem to be unnecessary exams, the last several visits have involved rather unorthodox elements, or so it would seem.

For instance, when I arrived for my last visit, I found that he had the sultry smooth stylings of Kenny G playing softly in the background, which he claimed was merely to help me relax, as I had been, quote, “rather tight with my browneye” in the past. While I’m certainly no stranger to such contemporary classics as “Havana” and “It’s a Wonderful World,” the doctor’s sprinkling of rosewater and jasmine essences on the bedsheets before my arrival, again claiming it was for “relaxative purposes,” was offputting at best. It is not uncommon for slight whimpers of pain to exit my mouth during the procedure, but I could have sworn that on my last visit, he was making the noises as well. After the procedure, which I’m told should take no longer than ten minutes but that commonly lasts over an hour when under his supervision, the doctor frequently leaves in a state of being hunched over, as though he’s unable to stand completely upright. IS THIS NORMAL?

After the procedure today, I told him that I would likely not be returning and would instead opt to try and find another medical official. Sensing my apparent angst and worry, the doctor suggested that I instead tape myself giving myself a personal exam and bring it to him. He contended that this would be more than satisfactory for his professional purposes, and he was positive the familiar setting would make it easier for me to, quote, “give up the ghost.” As he whispered this to me, I detected what was obviously a good amount of bourbon on his breath.

I guess what I’m hoping to find out is whether or not quirky doctors like this are just part and parcel for the medical field. Far be it from me to question the qualifications or methods of a trained and licensed doctor, but the whole ordeal always leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I recently quit working at Starbucks, and my insurance will run out in about two months. If things don’t seem too strange, I’d like to get my value’s worth and continue the prostate treatments for as long as they’re still free to me. Besides, what was once a pinchingly painful procedure has begun taking on feelings of near-euphoria in recent months.

Somebody give me some guidance,

Unnecessary prostate exam?

Saturday, September 4th, 2010

My husband has a family history of prostate cancer: his father and both grandfathers have had it and his father had cancer at 45. He is now 25 and has been having trouble with frequent urination. When he went for his routine physical, he discussed his family history and symptom with the doctor and was told a DRE and a blood test were unnecessary until he is 40. Of course he didn’t WANT these tests, but he is now a little afraid for his health. What age is normal for a guy to have his prostate checked, particularly with a family history of prostate cancer? Do you guys have it done when you get physicals? (Please post your age).

Is there a doctor that can do a prostate exam and check fertility or is this a seperate visit?

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

My soon to be husband is going to the dr. for a prostate exam (routine) and it was so hard to get him to go. We have been together for 6 years and we both want to have a child but i’m amazed that we have never gotten pregnant in the 6 years….the first 3 was using the pull-out method, then 1 year on the IUD, and the other was refraining during ovulation time. When we first got together we didn’t want to get pregnant…but now i’m 27 and he is 40 and i’m realizing maybe we will have a hard time. He has 2 kids from a previous relationship.

So my question is…i have asked him to have a check up where they do a sperm count..ect…and I am having the same. I do not know what specific dr does this? Can a man get a prostate exam and check his swimmers at the same time?

Thanks.
I mean I’m having my hormone levels checked…lol…not sperm levels…
