I need advice on how to raise my son with Hypospadias.?
My son was born with first degree Hypospadias, he is 16 months old and will soon have corrective surgery. I was wondering from a psychological standpoint, how this effects men’s emotional health and sexual well-being. What are some things I need to keep in mind when raising him… I guess I am looking for some advice and or stories from men with this condition.

The main thing is to explain to him, as he grows, and in terms he can understand, what he has. I was born with hypo, and have not had corrective surgery. I knew I was ‘different’, but not why until i was in my 40′s. That was the hardest part of growing up, being different but not knowing why. Now that I know what it is, how many men it affects (approx 3 to 5% depending on the source of the information), and that I have sucessfully fathered at least 3 children, it no longer bothers me. I would however, been much less shy and self concious in my teens had I known what I had. Feel free to e-mail me if you want to discuss this further, and good luck with the surgery.
